A Vow to Pray and Other Ramblings

I wanted to share what has been on my heart lately. Have you ever noticed how when you pray for something, you at least feel better? Over these past couple of years, this has proven to be true for me. I noticed that when I stopped praying for my children, my husband that their days wouldn’t be as good or problems would arise in their lives. But as I started praying again, specifically for them and this problem, it would go away. How simple is this? I have seen the power of prayer and it is real, folks. The answer of prayer to health problems, the answer to prayer for work related issues, school issues, just general day to day. I drove past a church the other day and there was a man sitting in a lawn chair with his head bowed and a sign next to him that said “You have just been prayed for.” What a neat feeling to know that someone had just prayed for me?? When I wake up in the middle of the night, I feel a sense of duty that I was woken up for a reason, so I start praying, for my family, friends, etc.

Do you remember the book: This Present Darkness? Remember the angels fighting off the demons? I think of this when I pray. Our prayers are like fuel for their power to defeat the evil that we cannot see. Yesterday, one of the boys came home and I could tell he hadn’t had the best of days. I felt as though I had failed him, as I hadn’t prayed for him throughout the day like I should have.

Before the boys leave the house in the mornings, we pray together to have a good day, find friends, etc…. I believe that gives them a sense of power to start off their day right, knowing that God will answer our prayers. But it doesn’t stop there. Parents need to be praying for their children (and each other) throughout the day. I am so guilty of forgetting sometimes and it shows when I forget.

Seth- Your heart is so full of compassion for others. I pray that you will be confident and know that you are a truly gifted young man.

Ashton- Your mind is beyond your years. You think like no other…honestly, you do. I pray that you will use your gifts for helping others see beyond just an ordinary explanation for things.

Max- Your laugh is contagious. You have the best laugh ever. I pray that you will use your laughter and sense of humor to fill others with joy.

My boys: Seth, Ashton, Maxwell, and Trey… I pledge to pray for you often throughout the day, whenever I think of you, which is a lot. Not just for this specific day, but for your futures as well. I love you.

Love,

K

“I believe the greatest influence a mom can have in the life of her child is through prayer. As she stands in the gap for her beloved child, the Sovereign Lord of heaven and earth hears and answers her prayers . . . One of the most powerful [prayer] principles is Scripture praying. When we pray the promises of God for our children, our faith increases because we are praying back the very words of God.” –Fern Nichols

So true…

Amen sister :) I just recently became a part of a Moms in Prayer group where we specifically pray for our children and the teachers and staff at Elm Grove. Such an amazing ministry. I had no idea that "Moms in Prayer" was international, such a blessing and necessary ministry!
